i'm finished and relieved!
i am jumping for joy that i am finally finished with my shower curtain. our bathroom remodel was completed mid march and since then i have wanted a really special shower curtain to finish it off. i bought 2 different amy butler fabrics from this etsy shop. they worked well together and were definitely the mixture of geometrics i was going for.
i can't say i followed any specific pattern, i simply did some measuring and went for it. i ruffled the polka dot fabric at the top before i attached it to the white strip. it adds a bit of femininity to a bathroom that could be fairly masculine due to it's color range.
this is a close-up of the bottom section. i can tell you that i was very meticulous in my measuring on this one, so it is definitely a camera trick that the white seems different heights!

birthday and bags
so today is my birthday. and with it being my birthday, i am day dreaming about what to buy from etsy as a little gift to myself. i just came across this purse and i am dying to have it! anyone who knows me, knows that green is my favorite clothing/accessory color. isn't it gorgeous, the antiqued leather looks so soft. and check out the bright fabric on the interior. having sneak peaks of color on the inside of my purses is something i love. it makes me happy while i search for my missing keys or ringing cell phone. check out this shop, she has truly wonderful items, just hands off this purse :)

summertime travel and fun
i was planning on posting this photo last saturday with the caption "see you in a week". but when i tried to upload it, i realized our vacation house did not have wifi!!! a week without wifi - i barely made it:) i am so addicted to technology that it took me about 5 days of withdrawal to really settle down and enjoy myself. all in all, we had a very relaxing week of vacation that consisted solely of...
exploring the beach. and...
having fun in the pool.
we even managed to hop aboard a pirate ship for an action packed sunset cruise. the best news is that i didn't have any end of vacation blues because we will be doing it again in 4 weeks. how did i get to be such a lucky girl this year?

butterflies and beauty
summer has begun with butterfly hatching, swimming and planting. munchkin number 2 has found a love for all bugs and insects. as a surprise, we mailed away for some caterpillars and for the last 2 weeks have watched them transform from gross little things in a tiny plastic cup to beautiful butterflies in their little house. yesterday we let them go and the kids were so excited. the newest transformed butterflies were very docile. they sat in the boys hands to warm themselves before flying off into the world.
as our little butterflies were growing, we were busy filling our sparse backyard with beautiful plants. somehow we have a knack for buying houses without an established garden. this is so frustrating to me because while i have a talent for inside decorating, i definitely do not have a green thumb. i want a garden like my brothers where i can walk outside with a pair of shears and cut bouquets for every room of my house.
the local nursery is running a buy 2 get 1 free special. for anyone who has ever bought plants, you will know that this can be a huge money saver! we bought roses, hydrangeas, gardenias, camellias, azaleas and a butterfly bush. i have already been able to cut some blooms and couldn't be happier. now, i just have to make sure we keep the plants alive.
and, of course, i had to add in one more photo. blue hydrangeas this time, my absolute favorite :)
